Attention kids! We'll be exercising our imagination muscles at The Dawes Arboretum every Wednesday afternnon. We'll find out about nature, trees, history and YOU through books, crafts, games, music and the world around us! There's no telling what we'll discover or learn! Every week is something different, so be sure to show up and get in on the fun. All you need to bring is your guardian and your brawny imagination!
8:30am – 3pm

Main Grounds
Let us immerse your child into a world of nature, including hikes and studies of native animals such as amphibians, snakes, turtles and bugs. Camp I and II are identical and are offered to accommodate the large number of children in this age group. Please sign up for only one week.$15/$10 members. Reservation required.
Visitors Center
From the Visitors Center, the class will take a ride with Arboretum Curator of Conifers Jeff Bowman to the Conifer Glen for outdoor work. This will be a very hands-on class featuring the proper methods for pruning different conifers in the landscape.8:30am – 3pm

Older kids get the opportunity to take part in more rigorous and complex projects and activities than the first two camps. Hold on to your hats! We’ll have lots of action-packed encounters with the natural world and go nose to nose with friendly critters.Free

Experience The Arboretum at night! Kids and adults are welcome to attend the hike through collections, woodlands and trails on one of our most popular programs.

All Seasons Garden
Stroll through the All Seasons Garden and soak up the beauty while listening to the lovely sound of live music. Priscilla Heweston and Ellen Ford of Delightful Sounds will fill the garden with the unique music of violin and dulcimer. Bring a lawn chair or blanket if desired. In case of rain, the performance will move to the Visitors Center.

Japanese Garden Parking Lot
The Japanese Garden holds mystery, tranquility and delight around each curve. Find out how this area was designed and installed. We’ll meet at the Japanese Garden for this lovely walk around the pond with Arboretum Japanese Garden and Bonsai Curator Keith Stevens.$8/$5 members
Zand Education Center
For more than 80 years, famous people—including aviators, explorers and sports stars—have dedicated trees at The Arboretum. Armed with clues and a map, discover some of the notable people who dedicated trees including the “Galloping Ghost,” the first man to orbit the earth and a U.S. Vice President. Arboretum Historian David Vermilion will lead this opportunity for family fun for adults and youngsters.
Going Green with
The Dawes Arboretum

Visitors Center
This program is open to newcomers to Going Green with The Dawes Arboretum as well as those who joined us for the first session in April. Participants will learn how to conduct green audits within their workplaces and prioritize and strategize ways to make changes on the road to environmental sustainability.
The Daweswood House Museum Tours

Once the country home of The Arboretum co-founders Beman and Bertie Dawes, the Daweswood House is an amazing museum filled with 19th and early 20th century antiques, collectibles and photographs that reflect the lifestyle and collecting interests of the founding family. A tour of the house led by our highly knowledgeable historian will provide you with background on the family and some of their passions, which in turn sparked their desire to create The Arboretum.
