Legacy Program
Legacy plants or benches are peaceful, elegant ways to honor and remember a special friend, loved one, organization or event. Select from many beautiful specimens and enjoy your selection for years to come.

The Dawes Arboretum guarantees the legacy label on your selection for 10 years or the life of the plant/bench. If, by some unfortunate incident, your selection perishes or must be moved during the 10 years, you will be permitted to re-select. The honored individual will be remembered on a permanent plaque in the reception area of the Visitors Center. The Horticulture Department reserves the right to decline certain selections based on the health and longevity of the plant.

  • Legacy Plant ($500): Honor a friend, loved one, organization or event with the gift of a living tribute. With the help of the Horticulture Department, you can choose an established plant to be designated. A laser-engraved label with the person's name will be placed at the chosen plant.
  • Enhanced Legacy Plant ($750): Select an established plant to honor a friend, loved one, organization or event. An enhanced, laser-engraved plaque with the name of the person being recognized will be placed at the chosen plant. You will receive a photograph of the legacy plant taken during its peak season.
  • Legacy Teak Bench ($3,000): Teak benches may be placed to aesthetically enhance the landscape or setting of a garden or to accompany a legacy plant. The name of the honored individual will be engraved on a plaque affixed to the bench. Please note: The Horticulture Department will assist with the appropriate placement of benches.
  • Special Legacy Plant ($5,000): Perhaps your loved one had a favorite garden or area in The Arboretum. You may select an established plant and arrange for ashes to be placed as their final resting place. A laser-engraved plaque will be placed with the name of the person being remembered.
  • General Legacy Contributions (any amount): These gifts are used to continually preserve and upgrade our plant collections. A gift made in someone's name will be acknowledged in our newsletter.

Requesting Memorials: Memorial envelopes will be provided to the funeral director. Please include the following in the obituary notice: In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to:
